The Almeria wine "Caballo Blanco" is positioned as one of the favourite wines of the region in the "Guía Peñín" of the best wines of Spain 2019.

Last week took place one of the most important wine events in the sector, the Hall of the Best Wines of Spain of the "Guía Peñín". An appointment that celebrated on this occasion its nineteenth edition bringing together the 1,500 best wines of Spain in 2019 from 67 different appellations of origin. The Levante de Almería has positioned itself as one of the favorite areas thanks to the wine "Caballo Blanco" from Bodega Sierra Almagrera. One of the few Almeria wines that has entered this list after obtaining 91 points, and the only one that has been in the Hall of the Best Wines of Spain this year.

For the first time, the event brought together the four wines (a red, a white, a sparkling and a fortified wine) that have reached 99 points, the maximum rating awarded by the guide and which does not necessarily appear in each edition. By category, red wines, including "Caballo Blanco", were once again the most popular type of wine, representing 62% of the wines presented (927 references). Attendees were also able to taste 360 white wines (24%), 20 rosés (1%), 84 sparkling wines (6%) and 102 fortified wines and other categories (7%). About "Caballo Blanco" In this wine, the virgin land where its vineyard is located remains. Elegant aromas, hints of red fruit - raspberry, blackberry and liquorice. Marked aromas of earth, minerals, hints of sea breeze, iodine and salt. Splendid in the mouth, fine woods, balsamic, roasted. Structured, fleshy, ample and, of course, unique. It is a red wine made with Tempranillo, Shiraz, Garnacha and Monastrell grapes, which sleep in underground cellars for 24 months in French oak barrels and after spending the necessary time in the bottle reach their optimum point to sweeten the most select palates.

More about Bodega Sierra Almagrera

Bodega Sierra Almagrera opened its doors in 2015 in Burjulú, Cuevas del Almanzora (Almería), an area where there had never been vines, beyond the vestiges of the Phoenicians, who more than 3,000 years ago dared to plant on the coast, leaving the mountains and highlands as impossible. Now, the promoters of this exciting project, José Miguel García, founder of the company; Domingo Haro, cellar master and Ignacio Figueroa, oenologist; backed by the company AgroecoPark, dedicated to the cultivation and production of organic cosmetic and food products, are working to put the wines born from these vineyards, which grow on a clay loam soil with reddish tones marked by fire by the mineral decomposition of its parent rock, where they deserve to be. The terrain is situated at an altitude of 350 metres above sea level, where cool breezes from the mountains on the shores of the Mediterranean predominate.
