Bodega Sierra Almagrera, located in Cuevas del Almanzora, has been awarded a silver medal at the prestigious Concours International de Lyon for its Caballo Español® Plata 2021 vintage, consolidating its position as one of the most distinctive wineries on the Spanish wine scene.
Located in eastern Almería, the winery is an example of resilience and excellence. In an area where wine production was historically considered unviable—due to water scarcity, high temperatures, and more than 325 days of sunshine a year—Bodega Sierra Almagrera has managed, in just 22 years, to produce exceptionally high-quality wines that compete internationally with the best in the world.
The award-winning wine, Caballo Español® Plata 2021, is a red made from a blend of Syrah, Tempranillo, and Monastrell, reflecting the uniqueness of Almería’s terroir. Its winemaking process includes 24 months of ageing in French and American oak barrels, followed by bottle ageing of at least three years, resulting in a structured, elegant wine of great complexity.
This new recognition adds to the outstanding track record of the Caballo Español® brand, which in recent years has amassed numerous medals in prestigious competitions such as the Bacchus International Wine Competition and CINVE, as well as other international contests. Particularly noteworthy was 2025, when the winery won a silver medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards (England) and a gold medal at CINVE, reaffirming its position among the industry’s elite.
For the winery, these awards are a source of pride and recognition of its ongoing effort to demonstrate that even under extreme conditions, it is possible to achieve oenological excellence.
